Galway Bound

Well we are off to Galway tomorrow with Fairwood Bob who runs in the 4.10 Handicap Hurdle and  Paco Jack, who will run in the 5.25 Galway plate.

Fairwood Bob is a very consistent sort and we would be hopeful that he continues on this road. Paco Jack is a very useful on his day and we hope he puts up a good show in what looks to be a very competitive and open Galway Plate. We would like to wish The Doubtful Venture Syndicate and Christopher Beirne the very best of luck tomorrow. One thing is for sure there will be plenty of craic to be had at Ballybrit!!!

Course Specialist

Cylindar rattler clocked up another winner for us in Wexford last week making this his 2nd win on Wexford racecourse just a couple of weeks apart. Cylindar rattler can nearly be called a course specialist having won this hurdle last year. Ridden by P Townend he gave an exhibition of jumping to win by 1 3/4 lengths. We were delighted for our local owner, Brian Redmond who has been a great supporter of ours over the past few years.

It's been a quiet few weeks with many horses enjoying the weather from grass fields but that is soon to change with most horses on their way back for the Winter months. There are plenty of young  horses to be broken, this will certainly keep us all busy over the coming weeks.

2009/2010 Season

We have had a great 2009/2010 season and I'd like to begin by thanking everyone who has been with us over the past year, we wouldn't be here without your enthusiasm, support and love for the game.

We clocked up 27 winners and 83 placed horses over the past twelve months and with many more to follow for the upcoming 2010/2011 season it promises to be a great year ahead. We have seen hoses such as, Current Recession, Urban Gale, Cylinder Rattler to name just a few romp home over the past few weeks and with Tally Em Up back in action and headed for Galway it certainly promises to be an eventful time to come.

We have some very nice young horses to look forward to for the winter season Ballyburke, Rathlin and let's not forget our Goffs  Land rover Bumper winner Divine Rhapsody. Divine Rhapsody is owned by Richard Walshe a local to Fairwood Stables and a long time supporter of National Hunt Racing. Richard has had an interest in racing for most of his life and has had previous successes but nothing quite like the day he had at The Punchestown festival. This is a really nice young horse that looks to be a horse for the future.

The past month has seen two of Irelands premier sales in action at Goff's and Tattersall's and Philip was there again this year in the hope of finding another horse of Divine Rhapsody's calibre. There seemed to be a great trade but we still managed to add few new additions to the yard, which are currently been broken. Let's hope there's a Gold Cup winner among them!!!

Friday

We had a good fall of snow here last night and this morning, there is a fair chill in the air. I had John out harrowing the gallop last night, and really hope we are not facing too many more nights of sub zero conditions although it feels as if there is more snow in the air. Planning a few yard improvements over the next week, may have to postpone if the ground continues to freeze.

Thursday

Check in with Mick first thing before heading out to the gallop with the entries book. It is very peaceful out at the gallop and so allowing me to assess the horses and write up the entries for the coming week without any interruptions.
